The transportation and post are well developed. The added value of them was 49.56 yuan up 11%. The amount of transportation this year was 134.19 tons/km up 11.9% including 20.51 tons/km of railway up 9.4% and 28.25 tons/km of road up 0.9% with 85.43 tons/km of waterway up 16.6%.

The communication is also a quickly developed industry. The industry got 43.26 billion yuan a year. The new users of fixed phones are 23.7 million, including 12.8 million of urban phones and 10.9 million rustic users. By the end of 2001 the whole users of fixed phones are 11.22 million and 10.32 million of mobile phone users up 52.9%.

The network users have reached 2.19 million including 0.86 million registrants up 89.3% compared with last year.

The travel industry is also prospective. In 2001 more than 68.95 million domestic people came her up 17.5% with total income of 5.29 million yuan up 23%. The tourists from abroad was 1.469 million up 30.5% with a total income of 0.7 billion dollars up 35.9%.

Culture, Sanitation and Physical Training

The culture career develops healthily. There are 78 groups of culture and art performance, 95 places of performance, 65 museums, 95 file museums, 12 art galleries of people, 84 places for culture activities and 1571 culture stations in the whole province in 2001.

The movie career develops stably. There are 1868 units for showing films by the end of 2001. The income of showing film is 6.797 million yuan, while the income of publishing is 3.523 million yuan, which is at the top place of the nation.

Radio & TV career gets new achievements. By the end of 2001, there is 12 municipal Radio station, which have altogether 96 sets of programs, giving service 1397 hours everyday. There are 12 municipal TV stations, which have 107 sets of programs, giving service 9038 hours every week. The network of CATV cable between provincial Radio & TV center and the other cities and counties have been built. The CATV users are 6.21 million families. The cover rate of TV and Radio are 96.7% and 94.9%.

News and publishing career took on a new look. There are 13 book concerns in the whole province, which have published 0.26 billion books of 4470 kinds, 2 billion newspapers of 83 kinds and 87 million magazines of 206 kinds.

Sanitation career develops continuously. By the end of 2001, there are 7755 medical treatment setups and 0.163 million medical technicians including 77 thousand doctors and 43 thousand nurses and also there are also 115.4 thousand beds at these hospitals. There are 255 epidemic prevention and cure setups in the whole province including 7153 medical technicians and there are 90 health care setups for women and children, which have 3263 beds and 6904 medical technicians. While in the countryside, there are 2575 clinics with 25 thousand beds and 47221 medical technicians. The sanitation condition of the countryside is better than before.

In 2001 the sportsmen of Zhejiang province have got 125 gold medals, 125 silver medal and 175 bronze medals. The number of gold medals ranked the 8th with the total remarks ranked the 9th. In big competitions in domestic and abroad the sportsmen of Zhejiang province have got 8 champion of the world and 9 in Asia and 535 in China. The number of people taking exercises is 33.9% of the whole people in Zhejiang province.

Environment Protection

The environment has improved greatly. At the end of 2001, there are 317 environment protection institutes in the province with 4199 workers and 87 environment inspection stations with 1801 staff.

The zoology example zone has built in 33 cities and towns and 3 of them has been the nation level. There are 29-protection zones in the province covering a total area of 0.135 million hectares and 67 forest parks above provincial level.

In 2001, 0.58 billion yuan has been invested in controlling the pollution. More than 20000 enterprises have constructed the equipment to control pollution and the release of 12 main items has been controlled under the nation standard. In the whole province, 125 smoke-control areas and 130 noise-inspection areas have been built covering 1410 square kilometers and 760.5 square kilometers separately. And the quality of the water in main lakes keeps stable.

Population, Living and Social Security

By the end of 2001, the residents of the province are 46.134 million up 0.4% than last year including 23.662 million male and 22.742 million female covering 51.3% and 48.7% separately. There are 0.461 million people born and the birth rate was 10.02%; 0.288 million died and the death rate was 6.25%.

By the end of 2001, the people who have occupation are 27.4 million up 0.5% than last year. There are 1762 job introducing institutes in the province which have settled 0.402 million unemployed persons. According to the statistic of the Labor Ministry, by the end of 2001 the unemployment rate in cities and town was 3.7%.

The income of residents increases much. The controllable income of urban resident and the net income of rustic resident are 10465 yuan and 4582 yuan up 13.3% and 6.9% than last year. The salary of the whole employment was 56 billion yuan up 11.8%; the average salary is 14650 up 18%.

The living condition improves greatly. By the end of 2001, the average living area of urban resident is 15.2 square meters up 1.2 square meters and the average living area of rustic resident is 47.8 square meters up 1.4 square meters.

The social welfare develops much. By the end of 2001 there are 179 state owned adoptive units with 11000 beds up 19% and there are 1963 units supported by the society with 50000 beds up 9%. There are 215 service centers up 24.3%.

The lowest security system is put forward. By the end of 2001 there are 0.266 million who need such help with 34000 and 232000 in the urban area and rustic area. 0.14 billion yuan was invested.

The Negotiable Security is also well developed. In 2001, there are 4 companies' stock has come into the market including 2 domestic companies and 2 abroad pooling 1.2 billion yuan together. By the end of 2001, there are 57 companies came into the market in Zhejiang province with 58 stocks pooling 31.19 billion-yuan. The 6 companies have pooled 1.24 billion dollars covering 1/3 of the total capital pooled by the companies coming into the market.

The insurance develops well. The total income in 2001 is 15.49 billion yuan up 14.32%. The income of property insurance is 5.17 billion yuan up 19.1% with 10.32 billion yuan of life insuran.
