Abundant natural resources

As a major mineral resources province, we have discovered 135 kinds of minerals, 67 of which have been affirmed capacity. Ranking top ten places in the country are capacities of more than 38 of them, such as coal, iron, copper, sulphur, limestone, etc, to name just a few.

Unique tourism resources

Located within our province are the Yellow Mountain , world-class scenic spot; Jiuhua mountain, the buddhist shrine, Qiyun Mountain , the taoist shrine; the towering Tianzhu Mountain and the tranquil Langya Mountain . All of them are state-class scenic areas. Our province also has 3 state-class natural reserves, 23 state-class forestry parks, and 9 state key cultural relics protection units. Moreover, we have ample labour resources and huge market, which foretell the economic development potential in our province.

Large volumes of raw material output in agriculture, forestry and pastoral industries

Anhui is an important base of agricultural, forestry and pastoral products. Our main food production includes grain, wheat, beans, sorghum and potatoes etc.; our main economic crops include cotton, rape seeds, tobacco, tea, cocoons and jute etc.; our pastoral products mainly include animal meat and furs, etc. In 2001, provincial output of grain hit 25 million tons that of oil hit 2,970,000 tons, both ranking front places in the nation. With our increasing attention and investment in agriculture and its related industries, our agriculture, forestry and pastoral industries are being equipped with higher scientific and technology content as well as stronger processing ability.

Highly developed education and a strong power in scientific and technological research: A system of education and scientific research has been shaped in our province with complete subjects. CAS(China Academy of Science) Hefei Branch and USTC(The University of Science and Technology of China) are located in our province. Besides, by the end of 2001, there are in the province 54 colleges and universities, enrolling 252,000 students, 227 independent R&D institutions at county level or above , over 40 university technology development organizations, over 261 enterprise technology development institutions ,and 1.01million technical persons.

great market potentials

While the province is strengthening its economy and gross competitiveness, its 60-million people are enjoying fruits of achievement since their living standards are greatly improved. In the 8th "five-year period", annual net income of urban citizens and farmers increases by 7% and 8.2% respectively. Bank deposit at the end of 2000 increased by 110% as against that at the end of 1995. Engel index in 2001 is 44.3%, indicating the expanding purchasing power of urban and rural dwellers.
