Survey of Highway Transport
At the end of 2002,
the national highway, provincial highway, county highway, country
highway and highway for special purpose including under-grade highway
up to standard and with a width of 4.5 meter-above reached 1.765
kilometers.
Through
structure adjustment of the second general investigation of highway,
the mileage of national highway had reached 125 thousand kilometers,
provincial highway 216 thousand kilometers, county highway 471 thousand
kilometers, rural highway 866 thousand kilometers and highway for
special purpose 87 thousand kilometers by the end of 2002.
Divided
by the highway technical grade, the highway of all grades is: 25130
kilometer super highway, 27468 kilometer 1st-grade highway, 197143kilometer
2nd-grade highway, 315141 kilometer 3rd-grade highway, 818044 kilometer
4th-grade highway and 382296 under-grade highway. The mileage of
up-to-grade highway has reached 1,382.9 thousand kilometers and
accounted for 78.3% total mileage with an increase of 0.4 percent
down last year. The mileage of 2nd and over-grade highway has reached
249.7 thousand miles and accounted for14.1% total mileage with an
increase of 0.7 percent over last year.
Divided
by the road surface grade, the mileage of all grades is: 288,644
kilometers of top-grade road surface, 433,244 kilometers of 2nd-grade
road surface,437,581 kilometers of medium-grade road surface, and
442,321 kilometers of under-grade road surface. The mileage of the
up-to-grade road surface has reached 1,601.8 thousand kilometers
and accounted for 90.7% total highway mileage with an increase of
0.2 percent over last year. The mileage of top and 2nd-grade road
surface has reached 721.9 thousand kilometers and accounted for
40.9% total highway mileage with an increase of 1.3 percent.
The
provinces with 1000-above kilometer super highway reach 10, which
are: Shandong (2,411 kilometers), Hebei (1,591 kilometers), Guangdong
(1,741 kilometers), Jiangsu (1,704 kilometers), Sichuan (1,501 kilometers),
Henan(1,231 kilometers) Liaoning (1,637 kilometers), Zhejiang (1,307
kilometers), Shanxi (1,070 kilometers) and Hunan (1,012 kilometers).
The
mileage of county and rural highway had reached 1336.9 thousand
kilometers with an increase of 59.5 thousand kilometers over last
year. The density of highway nationwide was 18.4 kilometers/hundred
square kilometers with an increase of 0.7 kilometers/hundred square
kilometers over last year. 99.5% counties (towns) had access to
highway with an increase of 0.2 percent over last year. 92.3 per
cent administrative villages had access to highway with an increase
of 0.5 per cent over last year.
The
mileage of highway in the eastern region was 561.2 thousand kilometers,
in the central region 607.3 thousand kilometers and in the western
region 596.8 thousand kilometers and accounted for 31.8%, 34.4%
and 33.8% total mileage of highway respectively. The second and
above grade highway in the western region was 122 thousand kilometers
and its density was 43.2 kilometers/hundred square kilometer, those
in the central region were 83.5 thousand kilometers and 21.3 kilometers/hundred
square kilometer, and those in the western region were 44.2 thousand
kilometers and 10.9 kilometers/hundred square kilometer.
The
mileage of highway maintenance had reached 1,661 thousand kilometers
and accounted for 94.1% total mileage of highway and that of afforested
highway was 940 thousand kilometers and 53.2% total mileage of highway.
